Some Sense of Normal...

Or as normal as ones life gets when you are homeschooling three kids in a foreign country as a military spouse.

We've been schooling for a couple of weeks now.   The kids know the routine of the day and we are getting a feeling for our curriculum choices.  They are also referring to our planner instead of always asking me "what's next?".  The two older kids are working on Japanese together which gives me a little free time to work with the little guy or I don't know check my e-mail.

To update you on how we are doing at paying off our debt goal of $45,000.  We have paid off three bills for a total of $14,846.22.  Slowly but surely we are making our way.

We are really sticking to our guns about our budget.  That is something hard for some of our friends to understand.  We have to exclude ourselves from things sometimes due to cost.  Otherwise we don't feel like we are limiting ourselves much.  We do have a semi strict budget that we are following.  We don't have cable, we don't do excessive out to eat meals and our cars are paid off.  Not having a car payment is great!  We are following the Dave Ramsey debt snowball plan so all extra money from paying off a bill or not having cable or car payments is added to another bill.  By February I should be able to say that we have paid off yet another bill.  I'm starting to feel a little more relaxed as we dig out of this hole.

I've decided to make it a point to watch as many sunsets as I can each week.  I really just enjoy sitting there watching the colors slowly fade out on the horizon.  I'm not going to think about how many sunsets i've missed on the last 7 1/2 years.  I'll just make the best of our last 8 months.

Dragon boat racing is still going.  We've been maintaining our practices for at least twice a week.  I bought some traditional race paddles for my daughter and I.  After racing season is over we are going to paint our team colors on them and have them engraved.  A nice memory we'll have together.

I however am going to be glad when our season is over.  I really enjoy getting out there and practicing, racing and all the excitement.  But I don't like trying to plan and lead practices with a bunch of grown women who all have different agendas.  Commitment is fleeting.  You can't please everyone.

I'm working on getting out and taking more photos.  Summer weather here is just too darn hot to want to get out there.  Sweating by anything other than exercise is not my idea of fun!

The kids and I have to work on getting our soaps made ASAP so that they can cure before our move.  We are also still going through stuff weeding out what we don't need or can sell.  We don't want to have unnecessary weight.  However we did find out that they will pay for our total allowable weight now.  Before they were going to limit us to only 25% of our allowance.  I don't have to stress quite as much now!  Whew!

Hopefully now that things are settling into place i'll be better able to entertain you rather than always posting about homeschooling and such.  :)

Have a great day!

  1. Visiting from the Alexa hop. I can't imagine homeschooling abroad, but know others who have done it as military families. We're just started back here, but won't be full force until the last of our guests are gone.
